SUMMARY:Reducing Compassion Fatigue
DESCRIPTION:Wouldn’t it be nice to take a few hours off of work on a Friday afternoon to care for yourself at a FREE mindfulness workshop? This training will provide some gentle yoga anyone can do\, guided meditations and instruction on how to take better care of yourself through mindful self-compassion. \nA certificate of attendance for 2 contact hours will be provided to any health care provider who needs contact hours towards licensure\, like LCSWs. This training does not provide CEUs. \nIf you are a health care provider\, you witness human suffering first-hand. When you’re seeing patients back to back\, the human suffering you witness can start to take a toll on your well-being and can lead to burn-out. If we want to take good care of our patients\, the first step is to practice taking care of ourselves. \nStudies have shown that physicians and healthcare providers who participate in extensive mindfulness training experience improved well-being and satisfaction\, including improvements in scores on measures of burnout\, mood disturbance\, and emotional stability. \nMost health care providers possess a strong sense of empathy for their patients\, but if caseloads are high or complex\, then they are at risk for developing compassion fatigue. Compassion fatigue can cause providers to feel less enthusiastic\, irritable\, overwhelmed and indifferent to the suffering they see in their patients. Compassion fatigue can have a negative impact on physical\, emotional and cognitive well-being. This FREE 2-hour event is open to all health care providers including\, but not limited to: Physicians\, Psychologists\, Therapists\, Counselors\, Nurses\, Meditation Teachers\, and Yoga Instructors. The event is also open to the general public as the fundamental skills and practices taught here are applicable to everyone. \nIn the training\, you will learn how to: \n• Use mindfulness to reduce stress and compassion fatigue \n• Develop and sustain a meditation practice \n• Apply mindfulness to daily life stressors \n• Use self-compassion to achieve a greater sense of resilience and recover more quickly from \nstress \nIf you would like to meditate while lying down\, you will need to bring a yoga mat along with you to the training. Lying down can allow you to let go of any concern with posture\, especially as a beginner. \nBy attending the event will will receive FREE resources that will include MP3 guided meditations and a written guide to starting a mindfulness-meditation practice. Register now! \nP.S. You do not have to be “burned out” to benefit from this training! Mindfulness-meditation and self- compassion are preventative! \nKind regards\, \nJude Johnson\, MA\, LMFT

SUMMARY:2019 Winter MBSR Introductory Session
DESCRIPTION:There has been more three decades of scientific research on mindfulness and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) which have consistently shown to have a positive and profound effect on living in the present moment while reducing medical symptoms and psychological distress. \n \nPeople who take MBSR & practice mindfulness find \n✽ Improved concentration\, memory\, creativity\, & learning ability \n✽ Reduced anxiety and improved quality of sleep \n✽ Improved health conditions\, such as high blood pressure and diabetes \n✽ Increased ability to manage stress and relax \n✽ Reduced emotional and physical pain \nHere is what people who have taken my course are saying: \nJackie “Before taking MBSR I would immediately panic under stress and become emotionally reactive and impulsive. I tried to numb myself from the pain with distractions like drugs & alcohol\, but they only provided temporary relief. I stopped using and started an exercise routine which helped some\, but nothing helped as much as meditation. I meditate everyday now which reminds me that stress does not have to result in catastrophe. I am less impulsive with my emotions and I can think more clearly. Before I took MBSR\, I kept hearing that I should try meditation and when I did it on my own\, it only seemed to make my panic worse. I wish someone would have told me that sometimes it takes patience and multiple efforts to start to feel the benefits. \nMichael “I took the MBSR course because I was preoccupied with anxious thoughts and feared that there wasn’t enough time in the day to accomplish what I needed to get done. I felt conflicted over competing priorities\, would lose clarity of thought\, and felt confused about what task I should be working on. The stress over my to-do list resulted in me becoming short with others\, which made me feel disappointed in myself. MBSR helped me develop a disciplined practice of being focused on the present moment which provided stress relief and more productivity in my day to day activities. Mindfulness allowed me to let go of worries about future events\, improved my responses to others and gave me the ability to enjoy life more fully. \nSusan “Before I started MBSR I felt like there just wasn’t enough time in the day to get my work done. I wanted to do my job perfectly\, but I was pulled in so many directions that it never felt like my efforts were good enough. Taking this course helped me recognize when I was caught in stress and gave me the tools to calm my mind so I could be focused and productive. I discovered that my best efforts were good enough and that what other people thought of me was not a measure of my success.” \nLaura “Before taking Jude’s course\, I was going through physical therapy and was suffering with neck and back pain\, despite keeping up with a routine of stretches and exercises. The mounting stress in my life seemed to make my pain worse. With MBSR\, I was able to incorporate the breathing techniques I learned into my physical therapy routine. These techniques reduced my pain and allowed me to benefit from physical therapy. Meditation may not sound like it’s going to be life- changing\, but it definitely made life more enjoyable by providing some freedom from stress and pain.” \nThis introductory session is a time to learn more about mindfulness\, including the benefits\, risks and how this course is structured over the 8 weeks that follow. The session will allow you an opportunity to experience a guided meditation and ask questions about the course and register if you choose. \nThis session lasts about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The orientation is FREE\, however there is a $15 deposit required that will be refunded if you decide the MBSR class is not right for you. If you take the class\, the $15 goes toward the price of the course. Refunds are available for up to 7 days prior to the event. \nIf you are interested in taking the MBSR course please look over this schedule ahead of time to make sure you are able to attend all the classes if you should decide to sign up. \nIf you register you will be asked for you cell phone number as well as some folks mistakenly put in the incorrect email and I am unable reach out if there are changes. I will not be calling unless I am unable to reach you via email. \nThe class starts on Tuesday January 15th. Classes 1 & 8 are extended 15 minutes\, however classes 2-6 end at 9pm. \nClass 1 January 15th 6:45pm-9:15pm \nClass 2 January 22nd 6:45pm-9pm \nClass 3 January 29th 6:45pm-9pm \nClass 4 February 5th 6:45pm-9pm \nClass 5 February 12th 6:45pm-9pm \nClass 6 February 19th 6:45pm-9pm \nAll-Day Retreat Saturday February 23th 10a-4p \nClass 7 February 26th 6:45-9pm \nClass 8 March 5th 6:45-9:15pm
